Abstract The article presents the interpretation of the concept of «liberty» by the tools of analytic philosophy. By the technique of conceptual analysis of «liberty» and «law» the relevance of the general legal theory and legal philosophy are stated. Developments of philosophy of language, which allows to redefine I. Berlin's conception. The proposed methodology allows us to transfer the attention from the sphere of metaphysics of law to the area of epistemology of law. This contributes a new interpretation of traditional philosophical and legal problems.
