The article reveals the theoretical features of the formation of the modern category of agroecological development, the general scientific substrate of which is the concept of “development”.

Attention is focused on the lack of proper substantiation of this concept by legal science, in particular encyclopedic thought, as well as scientific periodicals, which necessitates the appeal to the relevant achievements of other sciences, primarily philosophy. Based on the fact that the definition of the concept is based on the isolation of its most essential features, on the basis of a critical analysis of existing general scientific approaches, the signs of development are proposed, which are positivity, irreversibility, subject orientation, regularity and relativity of progressive quantitative and qualitative changes of a certain subject or phenomenon. At the same time, the mentioned general signs of development acquire corresponding features depending on the specifics of the subject sphere of development. In this regard, the objects of legal development are differentiated into directlymaterial objects, which collectively coincide with the objects of law, and legal values. At the same time, the fundamental role in the formation of agroecological development of the existing concept of agroecology, the definition of which is given in broad and narrow understandings, is indicated.

Special attention is paid to the emergence of agroecological law, the analysis of scientific views devoted to it, which resulted in the clarification of its legal nature and place in the system of national law as an interdisciplinary legal institution. In addition, the social relations that form the subject of agroecological law are outlined. The definition of agroecological development as an interdisciplinary category is provided. From the point of view of the universal sign of relativity of development, the starting point is determined from which it is appropriate to count the beginning of the further agroecological development of our country.

The legislative identification of the concepts of restoration and reproduction as ways of agroecological development is critically examined and emphasis is placed on their application, in particular in natural resource and agrarian legislation. Attention is drawn to the lack of a methodology for determining the specifics of compensation for losses in agricultural production, which will significantly complicate the procedure for the general assessment of losses in the agricultural sector from military actions.
